Miss Purotu Tickets on Sale Now


Tickets for Miss Purotu 2011 are available online at

$20 General Admission (Open Seating) or $50 VIP (includes meal, 2 drinks, and reserved table seating) 12 and under are free. The Pageant will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Waterfront, Aloha Tower, Honolulu, Oahu.

Linda Mataoa, a Couturier/Seamstress from Tahiti, has offered to design and create a (Robe Purotu) dress for each contestant to wear for the Island Formal section. She will be flying from Tahiti to Hawaii in August to measure the contestants. She makes beautiful dresses and we are so honored to have her as a sponsor!

Miss Purotu Pageant

The 1st Annual Miss Purotu Pageant 2010 presented by Purotu Designs was a great success!

Preparations are underway to make Miss Purotu 2011 just as fabulous!

The Miss Purotu Pageant is a Tahitian style pageant that allows young women to develop and share their inner and outer beauty, talent, and love for the Tahitian culture.

The contestants will compete in categories that will display their creativity, charm, beauty, talent, and thoughtfulness.

They will be awarded with prizes of cash, Tahitian Pearls, and Gift Certificates.

Contestants

We are currently accepting applications for Miss Purotu 2011. As soon as we have reached 12 contestants, we will close registration.

We are seeking young women aged 18-27 years with some Tahitian dance experience.
We are accepting 17 year old females with a note of Parent's Permission.

The entry fee is $75

Judges 2011

Jeanne Moua Larsen was born in Raiatea and raised in Tahaa, Jeanne has traveled the world to promote the culture of Tahiti . In 1988, Jeanne won the prestigious title of Mrs. Tahiti in the Mrs.Woman of the world pageant. She is the also the niece of the Legendary Madeleine Moua, who was responsible in reviving the traditional dance of Tahiti .

Prizes for Miss Purotu Pageant 2011

The contestant with the highest overall score from the 4 main categories will win a hand-carved Mother of Pearl Trophy, a sash, crown, and $1,500 cash.

2nd place will receive $500 cash and sash

3rd place will receive $200 cash and sash

The highest score in each category (Costume Vegetal, Pareu, Talent, Interview) will win Tahitian Pearl Jewelry valued between $200-$400 each.

There will also be smaller categories (Miss Congeniality, Miss Photogenic, Miss Responsible, Miss Charm, and Miss Professional) with gift certificate prizes (TBA).

2010 Contestants

Patriana CABLAY

I am 18 years old. My hobbies and interests are: going to the beach, dancing tahitian for Ia Ora O Tahiti Nui, and spending time with my family and friends.


Krystle FETAUI

Iaorana and Talofa lava, my name is Krystle Fetaui from the beautiful island of Oahu born and raised. I am 19 years of age born April 2nd, 1990. I’m Samoan / Tongan and I enjoy Polynesian dancing. I’ve done Samoan, Hula but I found passion in Tahitian dancing. I started dancing Tahitian in 2004 with Dennis Kia of Otea Kia Mana and currently dancing for Jerrold Martinez of Tiare Ura O Tahiti.

I enjoy singing in jam sessions, dancing, late night walks, party with family and spending time with my baby boy. I just recently got into the modeling industry as a hobby. Love fashion and makeup!

I look forward to pursue a career in Tahitian dancing as an instructor creating a place for the young generation to learn, feel & love the Polynesian tradition.

I am 20 years old. I'm half Tahitian and half American born in Hawaii but I return to Tahiti every summer to work and to visit family.

I am a sophomore at Brigham Young University in Laie majoring in International Business Management. I love to dance Tahitian, surf, and spend quality time with my family. I've worked at the Polynesian Cultural Center as an entertainer for the past six years.

I aspire to become an entrepreneur one day and I would like to help improve the quality of life for other people, especially our people from Tahiti.


Ravahere SHASTID

I am 20 years old. I was born in Lousiville, KY but grew up in the south of France until I was eight, then moved to the island of Mo'orea in French Polynesia, where my mother is from. I lived a year in China when i was fifteen and spent six months in Costa Rica working as a dive master in Playa Hermosa. I tahitian dance for work in the summers, play lacrosse and guitar in my spare time, and now study at the University of Hawaii at Manoa as an International Environmental Issues major. I attended Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts then I graduated from the Paris Cordon Bleu Pastry School. My favorite thing to do is try new things and laugh.


Leslie Poehere GOO

I am 18 years old. I am Tahitian and Chinese. My hobbies are dancing Tahitian and surfing. I have strong ambitions in becoming a future nurse and helping the less fortunate. I have volunteered at the Boys and Girls club in teaching Tahitian, & interned at Mars & Venus Counseling Center.

She is the also the niece of the Legendary Madeleine Moua, who was responsible in reviving the traditional dance of Tahiti .


Heidi DeMello Heidi Teharetua DeMello was born and raised on the beautiful island of Tahiti. She moved to Hawaii in 1985 and now resides in Hawaii Kai. Heidy has been raised as a child surrounded by the Tahitian traditions of song and dance and has participated in many cultural events, Tahitian themed fashion shows as a model and organizer. Heidy is married to Monte Demello and is a mother of three, Tamatoa 20, Casha 19, and Tepoerava 12 years old.


Eliane Ortas traveled the United States, Mexico, Canada, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Vietnam through Tahitian Dancing. She was a dancer for Tavana and Terii. She has also judged Tahitian competitions in Vegas, San Francisco, and Hawaii.


Tunui Tully has been working in the entertainment industry in Hawaii for over 30 years. In that time he has earned a reputation as one of the leading Tahitian and Polynesian choreographers and costume designers. Tunui has worked with many of the best known local shows including Germaines Luau, Hula Hut, Don Ho’s Polynesian Extravaganza, The Kodak Hula Show and several productions in Japan. More recently, Tunui is the chief choreographer for The Magic of Polynesia and Don Tiki.


 

In 2009 Tunui’s Royal Polynesian School of Dance was voted Best Tahitian Dance classes by Honolulu Magazine readers.

Tunui has taught and coached many of Hawaii’s winning beauty contestants from The Miss America pageant, Miss Teen America pageant and Miss South Pacific as well as others. He has also been sought after by several Hollywood productions to coach well known actors and actresses for scenes that were filmed here in the Islands.
